What is an SBA loan?
An SBA loan is financing made by a participating lender and partially guaranteed by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Because the government absorbs part of the lender's risk, borrowers get longer repayment terms and lower monthly payments than most conventional business financing allows.
The tradeoff is time and paperwork. SBA files require tax returns, financial statements, and a clear plan for the funds, and underwriting usually runs several weeks. For a real estate purchase or a decade-long investment, that's a fair trade. For a repair you need fixed on Friday, it isn't.
Use your SBA loan for
Working capital
Cover payroll, inventory, and day-to-day operating costs with a payment structured over years, not months.
Commercial real estate
Buy the building you already lease, or acquire the property your next stage of growth requires.
Equipment & machinery
Finance long-life assets over a term that actually matches how long you'll use them.
Debt refinancing
Replace high-cost short-term balances with a longer SBA term and free up monthly cash flow.
Business acquisition
Buy an existing business, a competitor, or a departing partner's ownership stake.
Expansion & build-out
Fund a new location, renovation, or leasehold improvements without draining reserves.
The SBA loan journey
- 1
Consultation
Day 1–2. We review your goals, revenue, and credit profile, then recommend the SBA program that actually fits — or tell you if a conventional option is faster.
- 2
Application
Week 1–2. You gather tax returns, financial statements, and a business plan or use-of-funds summary. Your advisor reviews the package before it's submitted.
- 3
Underwriting
Week 3–6. The lender verifies financials, orders appraisals or valuations if real estate is involved, and issues a commitment letter.
- 4
Funding
Week 6–10. Final conditions are cleared, closing documents are signed, and funds are disbursed. Express applications can move considerably faster.
